Long Way Home

Took the long way home

drivin’ around

Tryin’ to get the words straight in my head

fell down

crawlin’ around

finding out my tongue’s made out of lead

with so many broken pieces

kickin’ up the dust we left behind

back then

back when you were mine

3 am

the night never ends

(tryin’ to) get myself, back behind the wheel

ready to drop

and another truck stop

is this what I imagine, or is it what I feel

in so many broken pieces

diggin’ through the mem’ries left behind

back then

back when you were mine

Endless road

in a pickup truck

the highway keeps me company tonight

no blame

no playin’ games

just endless black that fades to endless white

my mind like a broken mirror

nothing hidden, seeing me right through

drivin’

in a circle back to you

Took the long way home

drivin’ around

tryin’ to remember the words inside my head

stepped down

standing around

it’s probably best that my tongue’s made out of lead

with so many broken pieces

pickin’ up the mess I left behind

I’ll die tryin’

or I’ll get it right this time
